ABANSA (The association for the benefit of children without help)

ABANSA is an evangelical Christian organization that endeavors to “rescue” abandoned children through religion and discipline. It runs 9 shelters, each for 12-14 children between 0-18 years old. Hospitals refer children to the program after their mothers have abandoned them for more than three months.

In the past, ABANSA also did work on the street, but today it does not.

In the shelter, ABANSA attempts to create a family environment, but with a strong regime of control and discipline. There are many problems with rebellion, violence, self-esteem, lying, and disobedience, and many children are expelled from the institution.
