Volunteering with Benposta
In order to read an essay on the history and services of Benposta, click here. The program has asked Shine a light to find volunteers with the following characteristics:
Skills: Doctors, nurses, dentists, community organizers, and artists (including theater and dance).
Length of Service: Three to six months.
Language: A basic level is necessary.
Age and Education: Younger than 35 years.
Personal characteristics: Benposta is not a "social service agency" but a democratic community for homeless and refugee children and adolescents. Volunteers must be ready to play a role in that community and should share Benposta's ideals of justice and grass-roots democracy.
