Colectivo de Prevencion y Educacion Rehilete A.C. (COPERE)
COPERE was founded by Venancio Cruz Tenorio, who had previosly worked with the Fundación pro Niños de la Calle and Artistas por la calle. It offers arts and crafts (including necklaces, beadwork, painting, and traditional Mexican arts) to children in shelters, transitional living programs, and other programs in Mexico City.
Inspired by the pedagogy of Makarenko, Piaget, Vigotsky, and Paulo Freire, Copere understands art as a metaphor for life. There are consequences of not doing your best: without discipline and hard work, art will fail. For that reason, kids and artists must take care with every little knot and bead.
