Youth Future
Youth Future is an evangelical program that works with boys and girls at high risk of homelessness. It began in 1968, intending to promote spiritual development for street and poor children.
In addition to a house in Bogotá and one in the countryside, the program gives monthly classes for parents and families. Youth Future uses the word of God to teach how to avoid abuse and violence. Parents learn that hurting their children is a sin, and that God wants them to love their children.
Children pass through four stages after leaving their own homes to enter the program: adapting, developing, protecting, and participating. In the last stage, they have quite a bit of responsibility, including teaching new members of the community.
Children attend public school, because they need to learn to live with other kids, even though the schools do not hold the same beliefs as the program.
