Irmão Sol

Irmão Sol runs two shelters in Belo Horizonte for street boys and one for young homeless couples. The program strives to “recuperate family values,” with two “parents” who live on site. Irmão Sol is firmly Catholic, and committed to improving the spiritual as well as physical life of its clients (nb: because Projeto Miguilim can assign street kids to many programs, children are usually here because they want a more religious or stricter environment. Those who dislike the program may try other shelters.). The children live in community and learn cooperation and solidarity.

Children must attend school, and many work. The program works to give them the skills they need to live on their own, and to be good parents when the time comes.
