Leadership Institute
Jaime Jaramillo, the charismatic founder of Niños de los Andes, recently founded a program to multiply his work. The Leadership Institute is, to a certain degree, a motivational course founded on the idea that the techniques that motivate a street kid will also motivate a corporate executive. The course inspires community and business leaders to work for the poor and dispossessed.
In the sessions, participants learn how to dream and how to make their dreams come true. You want to found a program for street kids? You can! And here’s how. In follow up sessions, participants prove that they are capable of feats they thought impossible: scuba diving, parachuting, white water rafting... Mr. Jaramillo makes them see themselves as reborn and ready to change the world.
Though not all participants have gone on to found their own NGOs, some have. In addition, the program has raised the consciousness of the rich about the problems of street kids, and has raised money for Niños de los Andes.
