Casa Hogar Nuevo Amanecer (New Dawn Shelter)
Nuevo Amanecer was founded in 1990 to provide food and shelter for street boys and girls. Twelve years later, the program has grown to include two houses (one for boys and the other for girls) and a strong evangelical curriculum.
Work begins on the street, where educators go at night to talk with street children, bringing bread, hot chocolate, and their Bibles. They offer the services of the shelter, but they never insist.
To get kids off drugs, Nuevo Amanecer believes that sports and responsibilities are essential. They develop self-confidence and teach that kids can live without addictions.
Nuevo Amanecer gets food from the government, but most of its money comes from a small evangelical foundation in Germany.
