Unión Pentecostal Evangélica

In Venezuela, the Pentecostal church has been a progressive force, working on behalf of women, children, and the poor. Inspired by Liberation Theology, many Pentecostal churches sponsor programs for street kids. The Unión Pentecostal Evangélica (UEP) and its theological training arm have motivated this commitment.

Because they were founded by American missionaries, many Latin American evangelical churches are conservative, as are many evangelical programs for street kids. The UEP knows that the Bible is the best tool to fight this theological error, so it teaches that just as Jesus committed himself to the poor and to social change, Christians must do the same. The teachers of the UEP are models for this commitment: after Sunday school, they always go into the street to teach and to be with the poor and excluded.

The UEP trains pastors and Christian educators in all parts of Venezuela.
