Volunteering with Shine a light
We encourage prospective volunteers to work directly on the ground in Latin America; not only will you learn an immense amount, you will also help the people and organizations that need it most. However, SAL itself also offers volunteer opportunities for people that are unable to go to Latin America and for those that would like to integrate another component into their volunteer experience.
Shine a light needs volunteers for the following important jobs.
- Translators. Since www.shinealight.org operates in three languages, we always need people that can translate between English, Spanish, and Portuguese. We also need people willing to translate theses, dissertations, and other research into a language that grass roots NGOs can understand.
- Editors. www.shinealight.org has grown to over a thousand pages, and our small staff cannot correct the various errors that appear on it. We need volunteers to proof the texts, to run the navbars, and to make sure that the links go where they should.
- Trainers. The Indigenous Solutions Project has developed a CD-ROM curriculum to teach other NGOs how to work with Indian children. Though the CD-ROM can work on its own, we are looking for interns that will work with grass roots programs in Latin America and coordinate training on the Indigenous Solutions curriculum.
- Project support. All of our projects require volunteers with different skills. Should you find a project that interests you, please write info@shinealight.org, and we will work to match your skills with our needs.
If you would like to volunteer in any of these areas, please write to info@shinealight.org.
