How can we promote sexual equality and girls’ rights?

  1. Transas do Corpo (Goiánia, Brasil) integrates feminism in all parts of its curriculum, and a knowledge of the human body is an essential part of its teaching programme. In its leadership training programme, which trains girls to become leaders in their own communities and focuses on equal rights for men and women in all aspects, the most outstanding educators are the girls themselves. Another of the objectives of this programme is to advocate women´s and reproductive rights and to denounce domestic violence.

In order to help themselves, the girls discuss their experiences but, most importantly, learn how to become politically aware. In addition, they speak to schools and community centres about the rights of women, put pressure on the authorities and make other street girls aware of their situacion.
